Certified Contractors

Certification became important to the Concrete Foundations Association between 2004 and 2007. A rising interest in local jurisdictions seeking contractor certifications specific to residential concrete foundations had been identified with inconsistency in the information pertaining to the credentials and requirements. A two-part program was created, first certifying individuals for knowledge of the current codes and standards affecting the scope of work covered by the International Residential Code and similar jurisdictional codes; then establishing standards for the performance, safety and quality assurance of companies invested in this industry.

The American Concrete Institute became the organizer and manager for the Residential Foundation Technician certification in 2016, co-marketed and supported by the CFA. Information about the exam covering this certification and the program can be obtained through the ACI/CFA Residential Foundation Technician Program where interested parties can search for credentialed individuals as well.

CFA continues to maintain a Certified Foundation Company program that builds from the Certified Foundation Technician offering the assurance that companies meet the highest quality standards in the industry. This program maintains an annual review of company and program performance according to several key business criteria. Companies achieving CFA Certified Foundation Company status demonstrate and maintain a minimum safety performance and a presence of a formal safety program; demonstrate high business standards; maintain a level of of continuing education relative to industry and business management practices; as well as additional key indicators of strength, commitment and proficiency. Membership in the Concrete Foundations Association is not a requirement of this program.
