Foundation Fundamentals: Module 3-C

Duration: 15:53

This is part 10 of a fifteen video series taught by Brent Anderson, PE, one of the most reputable design and construction engineers in the foundation industry. The course has been made available to members of the Concrete Foundations Association and was most recently captured during Foundations Academy in the winter of 2021.

Lateral Pressure Design looks at the structural efficiency of the concrete foundation wall and why it is designed as a simply-supported beam. While supporting the structure above, the primary performance and greatest load on the wall is that of the soil pressure restrained or retained by the wall itself. This influences the behavior of a plain structural concrete wall and requires structural steel reinforcement as the soil pressure increases.
