LOCATION DETAILS

The name Río Grande literally translates to "Great River," and the municipality is known for its lavish hotels, championship-worthy golf courses, iconic restaurants, and El Yunque rainforest.

Puerto Rico’s culture is a colorful tapestry of old and new, mixing indigenous, Spanish, and African traditions. You’ll find expressions of that culture all around the Island — from art museums to vibrant murals, from bomba dance lessons to lively festivals that fill the streets. Whether you want to look, listen, or join right in, immerse yourself in the unique and welcoming culture of Puerto Rico.

Do I need a passport to get into Puerto Rico?
No! Since Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, locals are American citizens, and American travelers can enter the Island without carrying a passport, however must travel with a valid ID. In addition to this, U.S. travelers do not require international calling plans for their phones, and the currency used in Puerto Rico is the U.S. dollar.

What language is most prevalent in Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States where the official languages are Spanish and English. You may come across people who speak a mixture of both, or “Spanglish,” given the influence of the U.S. on the Island.

Safety Tips
You don’t need a passport when traveling from the mainland US, but if you travel with one, store it alongside your valuables in your hotel’s safe. It is best to carry a smaller ID or a copy of your passport. Don’t leave any valuables, such as purses, bags, or luggage, in plain sight when going out in a rental car. Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid wandering alone at night in isolated areas. Consider contacting a tour operator to simplify your travels to various parts of the Island. Limit the cash you carry and take only what you need. After all, most places accept credit cards. Finally, be respectful of residents.

HYATT REGENCY GRAND RESERVE PUERTO RICO

Discover a beachside getaway just steps from the water at Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico, a family-friendly resort framed against the backdrop of the beautiful El Yunque rainforest.

You won't find a larger pool on the island than the Hyatt's sprawling lagoon-style pool, featuring a swim-up bar serving cool drinks and creative cocktails. Youngsters can play in the resort's kids' pool, while those looking for a more relaxing swim can head to the Regency Club quiet pool. Lounge by a pool, get a round of golf in at one of the two Tom Kite designed 18-hole championship golf courses, or tour the historic buildings of nearby Old San Juan.

In addition to the resort's offerings, you'll be just a six-mile drive from the trails of El Yunque National Forest, and seven miles from horseback and ATV adventures at Carabalí Rainforest Adventure Park.

Getting there

Puerto Rico's main airport hub, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), is just 23 miles from the Hyatt Regency Grande Reserve Puerto Rico, and is located just a few minutes from San Juan in Isla Verde, Carolina. SJU receives more than 8 million passengers annually, serving as the main airport for Puerto Rico. Currently, there are around 30 airlines offering services to domestic and international destinations.

Once you arrive at SJU, you will have no problem hauling a taxi or grabbing an Uber to get to the hotel. If you'd rather, you also have the option to rent a car.

For more information, visit SJU's FAQ page or contact the airport directly with any other questions.
